Job Description

Position Summary

McCarthy has an opportunity for a manager with drywall and framing experience. Partnered with the Drywall Project Manager, the Assistant Project Manager will be responsible for sales, estimating, and execution of McCarthy’s self-perform drywall and interiors activities. This role requires exceptional communication skills, the ability to analyze, adjust, report, and present key performance indicators for common and specialty scopes within the drywall, framing, and carpentry discipline. This position will be based in our Houston office but will require travel to various jobsites throughout the greater Houston area.

Key Responsibilities:

General

  • Knowledge in drywall, framing, and carpentry scopes.
  • Exceptional communication with all internal and external partners.
  • Experience in material pricing, volatility, and procurement strategies.
  • Ability to build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Attend industry events and represents McCarthy to the industry in a professional capacity.

Preconstruction

  • Prepare consistently accurate, detailed, quantity takeoffs.
  • Independently prepare complete self-perform cost estimate packages for projects using applicable project plans, specifications and supporting documentation.
  • Solicit and analyze bids from vendors.
  • Able to discuss project scope clearly and effectively during estimate review.
  • Attend preconstruction meetings to learn project information, estimating deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Prepare and submit pre-bid RFI’s for scope clarifications.
  • Keeps current with latest estimating technology and techniques.

Project Execution

  • In coordination with the Drywall Foremen, manage craft personnel on multiple job sites, ensuring proper oversight and development of multiple levels of staff.
  • Prepare contractual scope of work exhibits for vendors/subcontractors.
  • Develop post bid budgets/schedule of values.
  • Manage material procurement.
  • Manage field change pricing.
  • Direct, coordinate and provide information and documents to subcontractors/vendors.
  • Manage safety and quality programs and reporting.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the McCarthy/Owner contract and assist in oversight of field operation to achieve contract compliance.
  • Assist project staff in development of construction schedule and monitor schedule performance, looking for ways to improve/expedite.
  • Responsible for managing project budget.
  • Responsible for weekly labor productivity data entry, analysis, and report distribution.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 3 years or greater of drywall/framing experience in large commercial, education, and/or healthcare markets.
  • General knowledge of construction principles, codes, and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Extensive experience and highly skilled with Onscreen Takeoff and Quick Bid software.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with team and clients.
  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple tasks under differing deadlines.
