Job Description

Associate Attorney - Construction Law - Boca Raton

Please apply if you are a licensed attorney in Florida with 3 to 8 years of construction or commercial litigation experience.

Our law firm is positioned as Florida's Premier Residential Construction Law Firm for Homeowners. We help homeowners before, during, and after their custom home builds and major home renovation projects. We provide advice, guidance, and contract drafting services to homeowners before projects. We provide ongoing advice and guidance as a Renovation Concierge during projects. We provide fixed-fee pre-litigation services to homeowners when their projects go sideways in terms of time, money, and quality of work. We provide litigation services in select cases. This is a niche within the construction law niche that we are currently set to dominate through value-added services and creative billing models (not just hourly rates). We also represent a select group of contractors with their contracts and collections/lien issues.

The firm is on track for aggressive growth, and we need a client-service-oriented, full-time associate attorney experienced in handling disputes between contractors and owners to join our team to spearhead these legal services.

The role involves providing legal advice and guidance to homeowners regarding their construction projects, supervising and directing the work of legal assistants and contract attorneys (when necessary), negotiating on behalf of homeowners with contractors or other lawyers, and all phases of pre-trial litigation. Clients have very real-life problems affecting their living situations at home and come to us to help resolve them swiftly.

So, we help them creatively resolve their issues as promptly as possible, using litigation only when it serves the client's interests.

This job is not dictated by how many hours you can bill (although there are requirements). We need an attorney who is driven by genuinely solving client's problems in the most efficient way possible.

Our office is in East Boca Raton. This position can be filled by a Florida-licensed attorney working in person, remotely, or hybrid. If you live within driving distance of our office, you will be expected to work in the office at least part-time.

Applicants submitting cover letters explaining what attracts them to this position will be given priority.

Compensation:

$125,000 - $170,000+ yearly

Responsibilities:
  • Communicating empathetically with non-institutional clients in need of valuable, real-life guidance with issues of great importance to them
  • Reviewing a client's issues on construction-related legal matters, analyzing available options, and diligently working to determine the best course of action
  • Resolving the clients’ issues as promptly and efficiently as possible.
  • Negotiating with opposing parties or their attorneys to resolve ongoing construction disputes
  • Leading the firm's litigation practice through discovery, depositions, mediation, etc.
  • Overseeing workflow and assignments given to legal support staff and some outside counsel
  • Guiding homeowners through issues common to major renovation projects, including issues relating to payments, timing, and quality of work
  • Guiding contractors through day-to-day contract, lien, and payment issues
Qualifications:
  • You are licensed in Florida with 3 to 8 years of construction or commercial litigation experience
  • Significant experience advising homeowners and small business owners.
  • All phases of pre-trial litigation
  • You focus on resolving disputes efficiently as dictated by the best interests of the client
  • You are empathetic yet can have tough conversations with clients
  • You are a strong negotiator
  • You are an excellent writer who knows how to present arguments succinctly and persuasively in letters and motions
  • You are savvy with technology
  • You take pride in accuracy and attention to detail while handling an increasing volume of work
  • You desire to be part of a team driven by a purpose
  • You are efficient with your efforts and focus on solving problems
  • Experience managing other lawyers and a legal support team is a plus
  • Ability to generate clients within the firm’s niche will be rewarded
