Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Biologist to join our Obesity Research Group in Cambridge. The successful candidate will contribute to drug discovery and development efforts aimed at anti-obesity therapeutics. Leveraging expertise in In Vivo pharmacology, this role will play a pivotal part in supporting discovery efforts and established pipeline projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and apply a range of laboratory techniques to advance the development of novel therapeutics for obesity and related complications.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, and independently execute in vivo experiments to support preclinical characterization and evaluation of therapeutic targets and pathways related to energy balance regulation.
  • Conduct routine rodent handling, dosing, and small animal surgeries, including parenteral administration, stereotaxic surgeries, and tissue collection.
  • Perform molecular and biochemical assessments such as protein and RNA detection, Sanger sequencing, and analysis from ex vivo samples (bulk tissues or sorted by fluorescence flow cytometry).
  • Implement and optimize immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and various assay detection technologies (e.g., fluorescence, luminescence) to assess and validate new technologies or assays.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment, contributing to cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and advance therapeutic development.
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping, perform data analysis, and prepare reports, presenting findings both orally and in written formats.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. and/or M.S. in biology or a closely related field with 3+ years of laboratory experience.
  • Experience in in vivo pharmacology, molecular biology, and biochemistry; proficiency with techniques like protein/RNA detection and Sanger sequencing.
  • Proficiency in immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and various assay detection technologies (fluorescence, luminescence).
  • Experience with imaging techniques for assessing biological samples.
  • Ability to implement and validate new assay technologies in a research setting.
  • Knowledge of energy balance regulation and metabolic diseases, particularly in the context of obesity.
