Director of Nursing – NICU

Location: Brownsville, TX 78520

Schedule: Monday – Friday (24/7 department responsibility)

On-Call: Required

Salary Range: $90,000 – $140,000 annually

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Director of Nursing – NICU to join a leading healthcare facility in Brownsville, TX. This leadership role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in a high-acuity clinical environment, overseeing the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as well as the Echo and Infusion departments.

Position Overview

As the Director of Nursing, you will report directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care. This includes maintaining 24/7 accountability for the NICU and providing strategic oversight for Echo and Infusion services. The role emphasizes leadership, clinical excellence, team development, and operational management.

Direct Reports & Oversight

• NICU: 17 Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs)
• Infusion: 1 FTE plus per diem staff
• Echo: 1 FTE

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the clinical and operational activities of the NICU, Echo, and Infusion departments
• Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices and hospital policies
• Manage staffing, scheduling, and performance evaluations
• Oversee departmental budgets, resource utilization, and cost-efficiency
• Collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to drive optimal patient outcomes
• Maintain regulatory compliance and readiness for accreditation surveys
• Provide mentorship and promote professional development among nursing staff
• Support direct patient care during critical needs or staffing shortages

Qualifications

Education:

• Required: Associate Degree in Nursing and a Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field OR a BSN
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or related healthcare field

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of progressive leadership experience in a hospital setting (e.g., manager, charge nurse)
• Proven expertise in NICU clinical care, budgeting, staffing, and cross-department oversight
• Experience in direct patient care and a hands-on leadership style highly valued

Licensure & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
