Director, Total Rewards

📍 Central Illinois | 🏢 Onsite (5 days/week)

A well-established, mission-driven healthcare organization is seeking a Director of Total Rewards to lead enterprise-wide compensation, benefits, and employee well-being programs. This role partners closely with executive leadership to ensure total rewards strategies are competitive, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals—supporting the attraction, retention, and engagement of a diverse, high-performing workforce.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of compensation, benefits, and incentive programs.
  • Ensure programs are internally equitable, externally competitive, and compliant with all applicable federal and state regulations (ERISA, FLSA, HIPAA, ACA, etc.).
  • Oversee relationships with external vendors, including consultants, brokers, carriers, and plan administrators.
  • Monitor program effectiveness, costs, and compliance; provide insights and recommendations to senior HR leadership.
  • Develop and manage annual benefits and merit budgets in alignment with financial and workforce priorities.
  • Drive employee communications and change management efforts related to total rewards programs.
  • Identify and remediate compliance risks in partnership with internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing total rewards team, ensuring operational excellence and accuracy.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field required.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in total rewards, compensation, and benefits; healthcare or hospital system experience strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience (team size 4+).
  • Proven experience designing and managing compensation structures, incentive plans, and benefits for both clinical and non-clinical populations.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements impacting compensation and benefits.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and executive-influencing skills.
  • Professional certifications (CCP, CBP, CEBS, or similar) preferred.
