The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) is the leading trade association for the U.S. and Canadian recreational boating industry (nmma.org), the primary advocate for the boating business community and boating consumer, and the leading producer of consumer boat shows in the United States.

Member-owned and driven, the NMMA team manages an annual budget of $50M. As part of this work, NMMA runs the industry’s consumer-facing Discover Boating initiative (DiscoverBoating.com), which has an annual campaign budget between $5-7M and attracts 4-5 million potential boat buyers to DiscoverBoating.com. Additionally, Discover Boating consumer boat shows attract 500K attendees to its 14 events each year, with an annual marketing and communications budget between $3-4M.

NMMA represents 85% of the U.S. and Canadian recreational marine manufacturing market including companies that make boats, marine engines, and accessories. NMMA members deliver an estimated $45 billion in new marine products each year to consumers around the world to enjoy the boating lifestyle. COMPANY SIZE AND LOCATION

NMMA has an office in Washington, D.C., and in Chicago, Illinois. Currently, the team is working remotely and some of us are hybrid. In addition to Washington, D.C., and Chicago, members of NMMA’s team are based in regions where it produces its consumer boat shows including Boston, Louisville, Miami, Minneapolis, and New York. NMMA offers a flexible work environment, including remote work. The association currently employs 69 people:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Do you want to work in recreational boating? Join this fun industry and help spread the word about boating and life on, in or under water. NMMA has a unique opportunity to be an Event Coordinator for the Chicago Boat Show, Minneapolis Boat Show and Northwest Sportshow. The candidate should have excellent communication and organizational skills and be an upbeat, helpful, and positive presence in the workplace. Work with the Show Manager and Sales Manager to ensure P&L goals are achieved. Provide on-site event set up and support for the show. Have an interest in exhibit sales and show operations, as you will be supporting these functions. There are opportunities to take on additional responsibilities in these areas. You should also be willing to work cross-functionally, be adaptable, and have excellent communication skills.

At NMMA, we connect consumers with the recreational boating industry through our Discover Boating campaign and our Boat Shows. We also serve our members and industry audience through Government Relations, Business Intelligence, and Certification divisions. This role will report to the Vice President Midwest Region.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide polite and professional assistance to customers and staff via phone, mail, e-mail, and face-to-face.
  • Maintain and update Momentus (show management software/database) with all present and new data for exhibitors.
  • Assist with contract distribution, collection, and invoicing as necessary.
  • Responsible for overseeing exhibitor registration pre-show and on-site.
  • Key contact for e-ticketing - manage, update, and consult with Show Manager. Resolving onsite issues with attendee eTickets.
  • Website general maintenance - update page content, images, graphics, and forms as needed.
  • Manage show office and onsite temporary staff hired including training, managing schedule, timesheets, and payroll.
  • Prepare all rosters, necessary forms, and financial info for show site.
  • Maintain and create databases for mailings, marketing, prospecting, and advertisement purposes.
  • Responsible for weekly status report on projects completed and ongoing.
  • Collaborate with other show administrators to improve processes related to show production and administration.
  • Show site duties as assigned by show manager.

REQUIREMENTS/CREDENTIALS:

  • Proven great administrative writing and phone skills
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills
  • Experience with analyzing information and problem solving
  • Experience in data entry and ability to work with computer systems
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in exhibit sales and show operations
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Enthusiastic, Positive and Self-motivated
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
