SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The Extrusion Supervisor will ensure that all available resources are utilized in a consistent way with the manufacture of high quality products. They will also create and maintain a safe and efficient team of associates through the development of procedures and training.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Train all operators in the following areas: (not an inclusive list)
o Safety (personal, equipment)
o Manufacturing procedures and processes
o Equipment operation (set-up and control)
o Extrusion principles
o Physical properties of plastics
o Systems operation (water, resin distribution, etc.)
o Troubleshooting (non-conforming products, equipment casualty and/or failure)
· Ensure that all equipment is operated and maintained properly.
· Oversee and continuously monitor the overall operation of all equipment to ensure safe and efficient production.
· Coordinate with the previous shift supervisor on orders, problems, work schedules and housekeeping.
· Ensure that a quality product is produced.
· Check on lines for correct print, resin mix, pull tape, lubricant and all specifications.
· Select and install the correct tooling for changeovers on the lines.
· Troubleshoot problems with lines.
· Direct and coordinate with shift maintenance regarding the repair and maintenance of all equipment utilized in the manufacturing process.
· Enter and oversee production and process control.
· Assist with the development of new and established products.
· Inform extrusion technicians of any changes in production occurring throughout the shift.
· Assist with any problems that may occur on the lines.
· Maintain a good relationship with all departments to receive materials to produce high quality products.
· Assist scheduling in communicating what equipment is available to run a certain product.
· Maintain documentation on all associates within the department.
· Complete corrective action forms, disciplinary warning forms, absentee reports and any other documentation as required for associates.
· Abide by and enforces all policies and procedures listed in the Salaried Employee Handbook.
· Abide by and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
· Perform departmental safety audits for any hazards and remove and/or inform appropriate personnel of hazards.
· Conduct accident investigations and participate in safety committee meetings and safety programs.
· Perform all print changes for extruded products.
· Schedule personnel accordingly to meet production needs.
· Attend supervisor meetings when scheduled.
· Maintain employee relations.
· Complete appropriate paperwork to ensure accurate inventory transactions.
· Conduct departmental safety meetings on a monthly basis.
· Complete Monthly Status Reports- efficiency, scrap, process improvement, etc.
· Conduct periodic checks and reviews of training on employees
· Interview prospective candidates for the department and recommend candidates for hire.
· Assist in the preparation and maintenance of all job descriptions for the department.
· Conduct timely performance evaluations
· Implement and update operating procedures for equipment within the department.
· Responsible for overseeing the plant on weekend shifts in the absence of the production manager.
· Check in shipments and unload reel trucks in the absence of the shipping department.
· Set up production for special orders
· Perform all other duties as directed by management
· Make appropriate judgements on issues including but not limited to line speed, acceptable deviations from the production schedule, whether the department is appropriately manned, and whether employees have the mental and physical capabilities to complete their tasks.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
· Reading, writing, and mathematical competency testing required
· Knowledge of basic plastics and extrusion operations.
· Minimum of two years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.
· Knowledge of resin and water systems, all extrusion areas and hazards, and reel quality.
· Knowledge of the following equipment/machines: extruder, computers, lift truck, hand tools, and tooling.
OCCUPATIONAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
· Excellent language skills including the ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical process procedures.
· Ability to write, present and explain reports and work instructions pertaining to all phases of the operation.
· Strong leadership skills required.
· Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
· Ability to climb ladders, listen to equipment, look for defects in product and sense temperature changes in the finished product.
· Ability to hold conduit and drive nails into reel flanges simultaneously.
· Ability to move from one area to another by stepping over and / or bending under objects.
· Ability to spend up to 12 hours at a shift on your feet and around hot machinery.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Manufacturing floor environment
· May include outside conditions on top of railcars or silos in all types of weather.
