About the Role 

The Family Support Coordinator will support the Refugee Health Promotion’s School and Youth and the Women’s Empowerment Group Programs by assisting with activities that support women and children through the resettlement process. Coordinate and facilitate refugee women’s integration, children, and youth’s participation into the community. Develop and manage relationships with community organizations including faith communities, civic groups, ethnic/country of origin organizations, and neighborhood groups to facilitate community support for women, children, and youth. Coordinate closely with other IM departments to accomplish objectives.

 

Main Responsibilities  

  • Work with Community Engagement Program Manager (CEPM) and Refugee Health Promotion Coordinator to organize and conduct weekly/monthly refugee Women’s Empowerment Groups and children/youth workshops.
  • Track attendance and collect data from each session.
  • Work with CEPM to coordinate volunteers involved in:
  • Providing transportation to the women and their children to and from groups
  • Providing advocacy for women, children, and youth based on situational needs
  • Providing childcare and age-appropriate craft activities in groups
  • Providing one-on-one English conversational practice
  • Work with CEPM to assess the situational needs of program participants.
  • Work with CEPM to follow up on needs assessment with RS or external organizations. 
  • Assist with capturing data and analytics on the Youth and the Women’s Empowerment Programs.
  • Research empowerment activities.
  • Research costs of materials and products and services needed for the programs.
  • Lead the Youth programs and Women’s Groups as needed. 
  • Work with CEPM to develop partnerships with schools, school districts, and other educational institutions to address the needs of children, youth, and families.
  • Facilitate meetings between refugee parents and school administrations to address any challenges refugee children face in school.
  • Coordinate specific IMGH partnerships for summer activities for refugee women, children, and youth.
  • Conduct/support with school enrollments as needed.
  • Check the viability of virtual education in homes and support mothers, children, and youth with any issues.
  • Support women, children, and youth with learning Zoom and basic computer literacy so they can attend sessions.
  • Support the CEPM and the CE staff in all facets of the Youth and Women’s Empowerment programs.
  • Assist the CEPM with the coordination of special projects, donation drives and special events. 
  • Assist the CEPM with coordination and support for the Women’s Empowerment Group (WEG) and School/Youth program as well as any future programs developed by the department to support the needs of the refugee clients.
  • Attend RS, CE, and RHP planning and information meetings.
  • Attend relevant community meetings and conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required with at least three years of experience working with women, children, youth, and volunteers in a community setting. Experience with refugees and immigrants is highly desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to quickly learn the Refugee Management System database.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of independent judgment.
  • Must enjoy working with culturally and ethnically diverse staff, clients, and volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to interact well with all levels and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including late nights and some weekends.
  • Must have an automobile, valid driver’s license, and automobile liability insurance.
