Faith Academy of Bellville provides a quality, Christian education within a loving and structured environment for students ranging from 12 months old through their senior year of high school. About the Head of School

The Head of School is a key leadership role responsible for the overall administration, operation, and growth of a private Christian PreK-12 school. This position requires a strong commitment to Christian values, educational leadership, and the ability to foster a Christ-centered learning environment. The Head of School will oversee academic programs, faculty and staff management, financial operations, and strategic planning, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and values.

At Faith Academy, the structure of authority includes an administrative team, the PIllars, that direct various areas of the day to day operations of the school. This group of servant leaders is led by the Head of School. The group maintains the “load bearing” principles of Faith Academy and ensures all decisions for the school’s operations are in line with the mission statement, the statement of faith, and the foundational principles established by the school’s founder, Mrs. Merlene Byler.

The Head of School’s responsibilities include:

Spiritual and Character Leadership

• Maintain a close personal walk with the Lord and project the Board’s spiritual leadership to staff, parents, and students.
• Serve as a “servant-leader” to families, faculty, and students.
• Ensure all staff uphold Christian virtues and act as Christian role models in their daily lives.
• Observe and implement the Love and Logic and FALCON program principles.

Overall School Administration and Policy

• Administer Faith Academy Bellville in accordance with its philosophy, policies, and procedures adopted by the board.
• Monitor the daily adherence and implementation of school policies by staff, students, and parents.
• Partner with the directors to resolve problems and concerns throughout the school.
• Partner with the pillars in the daily operation of the school through supervision of staff and coordination of activities.
• Oversee all job descriptions and update and distribute the Policy & Procedure Manual as needed.

Academic Leadership

• Set the tone for a “quality educational program” .
• Partner with the Dean of Academics and the K-12 Director to implement curriculum materials, assessments, and instruction.
• Partner with the Dean of Academics to ensure compliance with standardized testing requirements, including reports from the Dean of Academics on Iowa Testing results.
• Partner with the Director of Human Resources to verify that all employees meet or exceed accreditation certification requirements, currently through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
• Partner with the Pillars to complete all necessary requirements needed to obtain and maintain accreditation, keeping the board informed.
• Work with the Pillars to prepare the Accreditation Annual Report annually by October 1.

Human Resources Management

• Partner with the Human Resources director to ensure all personnel affairs; including securing staff, developing contracts, and determining salaries and benefits. The Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for the approval of all employees and fixing salaries.
• Provide leadership in training and evaluating employees annually to ensure work is well done and employees represent Jesus Christ.
• Establish clear lines of authority, assign personnel, and develop job descriptions in coordination with Human Resources.
• Partner with the Pillars to coordinate administrative staff development and teacher in-service.
• Work with the building directors and the Director of Human Resources to complete interviews, selection, training, and supervision of substitutes, tutors, resource persons, and receptionists.
• Oversee Human Resources in maintaining personnel files for all current and former employees.

Financial Management

• Authorize all purchase orders.
• Prepare and monitor annual budgets, grants, and scholarship requests. The school’s operating budget is currently “in progress”.
• Ensure timely preparation and delivery of financial statements.
• Meet with the financial adviser annually.
• Present the tuition history and recommendations for changes to the board annually.

Student and Parent Relations

• Oversee and maintain admission procedures working closely with the Admissions Team.
• Provide guidance for volunteer programs.
• Provide guidance in coordinating parent class activities and providing leadership in parent education.

Public Relations and Development

• Coordinate public relations programs, including brochures, media releases, parent orientation, and logo.
• Oversee fundraising events and ensure the Booster Club presents its fundraising plan for the coming year.

Operations and Facilities

• Oversee campus operations, including building programs, special services, and grounds maintenance.
• Oversee and provide guidance on special projects such as school trips, concerts, and convention trips.

Board Communication and Support

• Prepare for all board meetings, setting up agendas, overseeing minutes, and filing all requested board records.
• Facilitate board administration with requested reports, documents, and suggested policies.
• Provide monthly reports (for the fiscal year July 1-June 30) for the board’s review and decision-making.

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Head of School:

Education and Experience

• A Master’s degree is required. The Head of School’s credentials must match or exceed the accrediting agency’s requirements (ACSI).
• 10 years of education experience are required, preferably a mixture of classroom and leadership roles.

The Head of School (HOS) at Faith Academy Bellville will bring a unique blend of spiritual maturity, leadership acumen, and interpersonal skills. Prospective candidates should possess the following personal characteristics:

• Profound Spiritual Commitment : The ideal candidate must maintain a close personal walk with the Lord and be fully supportive of FAB’s Statement of Faith. This spiritual foundation is expected to be evidenced by their example and spiritual leadership among peers and with students. They should also have a sense of God’s will for working in a Christian school and faithfully participate in a local church whose fundamental beliefs align with the school’s statement of faith.
• Servant Leadership and Role Modeling : The HOS is expected to serve as a “servant leader” to families, faculty, and students. This includes manifesting the highest Christian virtue and personal decorum, serving as a Christian role model in daily living, and ensuring all staff uphold these virtues. They should demonstrate a “servant’s attitude” and be willing to go beyond their job description when necessary.
• Positive and Constructive Demeanor : The HOS should maintain a positive, encouraging spirit and utilize a “THINK before speaking” approach in conversations, ensuring what they say is True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, and Kind. They are expected to follow Biblical patterns for conflict resolution (Matthew 18:15-17) and avoid highly debatable or divisive topics.
• Professionalism and Integrity : Candidates must demonstrate professional personal appearance and abide by all school policies, procedures, and ethical codes. They should commit to upholding Faith Academy’s Statement of Faith, Philosophy, Mission Statement, and Objectives. Furthermore, they must be aware of and fulfill all legal obligations, including child abuse reporting requirements.

Organizational and Interpersonal Acumen : The HOS should be able to resolve problems and concerns throughout the school, know when to defer issues to the appropriate authority, and ensure proper chains of command are followed.
