In regards to HEALTHY LIFESTYLES INSTRUCTOR: Job Summary The Healthy Lifestyles Instructor’s role is to implement social-emotional learning and prevention programming, to include an evidence-based teen education program that promotes positive youth development through a social-emotional curriculum, community service learning and supportive relationships with adults, with the overall goal of healthy decision making. They will be responsible for developing materials and facilitating workshops on topics of health, wellness, and life-skills related to prevention and whole-person development. Ultimately, the Healthy Lifestyles Instructor will ensure students experience personal growth, improved self-esteem, and increased knowledge about healthy lifestyles. This position will require the individual to be on site during the school day at Aliquippa School District 2 partial days per week and then administrative planning time for approximately 8 hours per week.
Responsibilities - Develop education materials, related curriculum and resources
- Facilitate educational workshops based on TOP that emphasize decision-making, body image, identity, values, and roles and relationships for teens and their families in schools and community-based organization
- Provide supportive and fact-based education workshops to youth
- Identify community based and governmental resources (i.e. medical and mental health care specialists) and refer clients to and advocate for the acquisition of resources on their behalf
- Stay current on all information concerning reproductive health, sexuality education and healthy relationships as well as self-esteem and character education programs
- Maintain confidential and secured recording of health counseling, case notes, and profiles
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the Agency to ensure an integrated learning through the organization
- Create a monthly calendar of activities and quarterly program outlines and plans
- Submit monthly reports and attendance logs to the Program Manager/Coordinator, including inputting student data in the curriculum developer’s database
- Serve as a liaison between the school/community partner and the Program Manager/Coordinator
- Aid adolescents in planning service learning projects to better serve their communities
- Perform other duties as assigned
In regards to Youth Development Professional: Job Summary
The Youth Development Professional will be hands-on with the youth to implement curriculum and programming on a day to day basis. This role is responsible for the supervision and safety of all program participants as well as relationship building. This role will ensure that they follow all DHS Chapter 3270 Regulations and BGCA Safety requirements. This individual will have a consistent weekly schedule but the times and locations will vary as this is a joint role. These hours will be served on site at BGCWPA’s Aliquippa School District Clubhouse.
Responsibilities
- Implement educational programming to include: STEM, art, mentoring, athletics and activities.
- Ensure the safety of all program participants while in care.
- Encourage recruitment with youth and families to assist with communications in the community of what programs, services, and outreach BGCWPA has to offer.
- Conduct annual youth evaluations of child progress per DHS requirements within 45 days of entry into the program.
- Promote and stimulate membership in the Clubhouse through programs, services, and outreach activities.
- Conduct monthly incentive programs that focus on literacy, STEM, Art, Mentoring, Athletics and Social/Emotional Learning activities.
- Work with volunteer, tutors, and students to participate in an ongoing education improvement program
- Implement educational and all out of school time programs that are stimulating and age appropriate for all members.
- Provide an environment that promotes creativity and exploration through learning
- Offer input regarding department programs, in partnership with the approval of Program Manager
- Observe and report any maintenance and operation concerns of the department’s physical property, ensuring Club member safety at all times to the Clubhouse director.
Required Experience:
- A commitment to the mission and programs of BGCWPA and Healthy Lifestyles
- At a minimum a high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children- some credit bearing coursework preferred in child development.
- Experience teaching adolescents on topics related to health and lifestyle topics
- Outstanding presentation and interpersonal skills both oral and written
- An ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Must have a high level of confidentiality and professional integrity
- The ability to create strong relationships with youth in a short period of time
- An interest in a variety of youth programs including technology, art, sports, STEM, mentoring and recreation
- Advanced positive customer service skills needed.
- Must complete a health physical and TB test
- 3 letters of Reference
- Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter.
- Mandated Reporter Certification within 45 days of hire
- Be able to attend a minimum of 12 hours of training per year.
- Attend CPR, Pediatric First Aid training within the first 90 days of hire.
- Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills are a must
- Proficient in Google Suite.
- The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs function require the following physical demands: lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, any/or pulling, climbing to include steps, balancing, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and signification fine fingered dexterity. Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc.
- Perform all additional duties and tasks assigned by leadership/supervisors.
Certifications and Clearances BGCPWA’s highest priority is the safety of the youth we serve. CPR, Pediatric First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, Criminal History, FBI Clearance, NSOR Certificate, PA Disclosure, PA Staff Health Assessment, TB Test, and Mandated Reporter certification required upon hire or within 6 months.
