Job Description

Overview

The Import Customs Compliance Specialist will be responsible for various tasks to help facilitate the timely, compliant importation of products into the U.S. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, HTS classification, import documentation, auditing, communication, and execution of related processes/procedures that ensure Humanscale complies with all import regulations while exercising the highest standard of reasonable care. This is a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Essential Functions

• Coordinate with customs broker to resolve questions and provide information at the time of port arrival, including, but not limited to: HTS, FTA eligibility, valuation verification, Tariff assessments, and AD/CVD applicability

• Perform daily audits of Customs Entries

• Compile specific documentation for the purpose of drawback claims

• Create weekly reports on product movement through US, Canadian and Mexican borders

• Create recurring reports on US, Canadian and Mexican Customs spend

• Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve processes

• Maintain department records/files as required

• Provide Planners and Management with applicable HTS and corresponding duty rates prior to import

• Support and assist with any departmental need in or outside the company, i.e., U.S. Customs, broker, planners, management, etc.

• Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; Associate’s degree required
  • 1-3 years of experience required in data analysis and Customs related functions
  • Knowledge and understanding of U.S. Customs import, as well as Canadian and Mexican customs processes
  • Attention to detail with precision in reporting
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills with the ability to disseminate significant amounts of information
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Ability to prioritize workload and multitask
  • Customer focused; adept at managing difficult situations
  • Strong problem-solving skills including root cause identification
  • Possesses/develops knowledge regarding products, procedures, and policies; understands critical issues affecting the organization
  • Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; provides and welcomes feedback

  • Excellent follow-through skills

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Proficiency in MS Office particularly in Excel and math to estimate numerical data
