Job Description

Laboratory Technician - HPLC Specialist | Medical Device R&D

Ready to accelerate life-saving medical device development while building your analytical chemistry career?

Pave Talent is hiring on behalf of our client - a pioneering 50-person medical device company in Gaithersburg, MD known for their mission-driven culture, cutting-edge regenerative medicine technology. Following their FDA-cleared breakthrough in cardiac device protection, they're now developing antibiotic-eluting products to solve a critical problem: 1 in 3 breast reconstruction patients experience severe infections requiring removal of their reconstruction.

Your laboratory work will directly impact patient lives.

The Role & Impact

As Laboratory Technician, you'll provide immediate hands-on support to alleviate urgent workload demands during a high-priority product development phase. You'll perform critical HPLC testing and extensive solution preparation, helping the R&D team troubleshoot product variability challenges and accelerate development timelines for next-generation breast reconstruction products. This contract-to-hire position offers strong potential for conversion for exceptional performers who demonstrate technical excellence and cultural fit.

What You'll Do Daily

  • Perform HPLC analysis following established protocols to test antibiotic spray application variability on medical device products
  • Prepare solutions, buffers, and reagents with precision - this hands-on component comprises significant daily work
  • Support assay development activities and troubleshoot analytical challenges alongside senior chemists
  • Conduct routine sample preparation, processing, and testing to maintain project momentum
  • Document all testing activities in compliance with Good Documentation Practices and FDA regulations
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including HPLC systems with proper calibration protocols
  • Collaborate directly with the Senior Director of Product Development and analytical chemistry team
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that accelerate product development timelines

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years hands-on HPLC experience (academic research laboratory or industry - both qualify!)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related scientific field
  • Demonstrated wet lab experience with solution preparation and analytical testing
  • Strong attention to detail with high degree of accuracy in laboratory work
  • Authorization to work in the US without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, or biotechnology industries
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations (21 CFR 820) or ISO 13485 standards
  • Familiarity with other analytical techniques (UV/Vis spectroscopy, mass spectrometry)
  • Experience with electronic laboratory notebooks or LIMS systems

What Makes This Opportunity Special

  • Market competitive compensation with comprehensive benefits and strong conversion potential. Work in a state-of-the-art Gaithersburg facility with flexible start times to accommodate DC-area traffic - they genuinely understand the commute challenges.
  • Join a small, collaborative R&D team where your contributions immediately accelerate critical product timelines.
  • Work alongside experienced analytical chemists including the Senior Director of Product Development who is known for being "amazing" and "super smart."
  • Small company environment means your individual contributions are visible and valued - no getting lost in a large organization.
  • This company lives their "CRU" values: Contagiously Confident (bring purpose and positive energy), Ridiculously Relentless (push forward because patients count on you), and Unanimously United (succeed together with shared mission). The team specifically emphasizes their personal, conversational interview style - they want to know who you are as a person first, then discuss technical skills.
  • Monday-Friday schedule only with true work-life balance prioritized. Strong track record of successful product development: they created the world's first FDA-cleared drug-eluting bioenvelope for pacemakers, now applying that proven technology to help breast cancer survivors.
