This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. The Division of Forensic Sciences is currently recruiting to fill multiple vacancies for Laboratory Technician 1 positions to join their team. These positions will be headquartered at the Milwaukee Crime Laboratory, located at 1578 South 11 th Street, Milwaukee, WI.

Position Summary

This is the entry-level work involving the proper receiving, storage, security and disposition of evidence submitted to the laboratory. Strict documentation of the evidence chain of custody is an integral part of this position. In addition, maintain compliance with ANAB and Crime Laboratory Bureau Policies and Procedures for requirements of Accreditation of Forensic Science Testing Laboratories.

This position works closely with law enforcement personnel, District Attorneys and their office personnel, and Crime Laboratory analysts. This position may have the opportunity to assist other units within the Milwaukee Crime Laboratory. All of these duties are accomplished under close, progressing to limited supervision.

Please note – in addition to above, a main part of the duties of this position will be to assist with a large document scanning project.
Salary Information

The Laboratory Technician 1 classification is in pay schedule 06 and range 12. The starting pay will be $21.55/hour. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.
Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and is limited to the maximum of 1039 hours in a 12-month period. Limited Term Employees must be a resident of Wisconsin.

The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.
Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will also have training, education, or work experience in all the following areas : Completing data tracking/record keeping (e.g. establishing/following filing procedures, tracking/logging data, or similar). Experience using Microsoft Office Suite products, or similar software, in a professional setting Collecting and managing confidential information. Experience working independently or as a member of a multifaceted team required to efficiently manage time and meet strict deadlines.
