Work Schedule: 9/80 Schedule - 7:00 am to 5:00 pm

JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction of the Planning Manager oversee surveys to meet the Company's land survey and asset management related needs.
JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for a variety of tasks and duties, which may include, but would not be limited to, the following:
- Prepare maps and revise existing maps, making all necessary corrections and adjustments.
- Compile data required for map preparation, including aerial photographs, survey notes, records, reports, original maps, and calculations.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of real property and right-of-way documents; examine documentation such as plat books, easements, maps, and deeds in order to verify properties' legal descriptions.
- Compile federal, state, county and city records for information concerning rights-of-ways.
- Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
- Write legal descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds or other legal property documents.
- Direct or conduct surveys in order to establish legal boundaries for properties based on deeds and titles.
- Direct or conduct topographic surveys to obtain information about landform and existing features for engineering design use.
- Direct or conduct construction staking to provide information and support to both linear and vertical construction operations.
- Conduct research regarding legal records, survey records, and land titles in order to obtain information about property boundaries, rights-of-way and/or easement in concern.
- Utilize, maintain, adjust and calibrate surveying instruments in order to maintain their good working condition and accuracy.
- Coordinate survey findings with the work of engineering design and construction management personnel involved with projects.
- Manage and coordinate with external survey consultants regarding aerial surveys as necessary.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of asset inventories and records.
- Maintain asset records in the hierarchical database for planning purposes.
- Collect and coordinate criteria for asset operation, performance, service and retirement in accordance with industry standards and CPUC regulations and requirements.
- Develop survey methods and procedures for training purposes.
- Train internal engineering department personnel and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps.
- Operate a CADD workstation to prepare engineering survey drawings consisting of basic horizontal and vertical alignments, layouts, flow diagrams, assemblies, isometrics, etc., from rough sketches and/or from general survey information according to established standards and procedure.
- Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings. Understand how to read orthographic (2D) and/or isometric (3D) designs and supplier/manufacturer drawings.

- Must demonstrate the ability to use CADD software and be proficient with AutoDesk Civil3D CADD within one (1) year of employment.
- Familiarity with Land Surveying principles and practices, including survey law.
- Knowledge of or familiarity with drone surveys is desirable.
- Knowledge of ESRI Utility Database is desirable.
- Knowledge of various horizontal and vertical coordinate systems and data (e.g. State Plane Coordinate Systems, UTM grid system, NAD83, NAD27, NAVD88, NGVD29) is required.
- Knowledge, understanding and familiarity working with real property documents, such as vesting deeds, legal descriptions, easements, title reports, exhibits, etc.
- Field survey and engineering methods and techniques.
- Mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
- Knowledge of civil engineering and survey terminology, descriptions and materials including maps, plat drawings and specifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
The following are required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with concentration on Geospatial Sciences
- California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required
- Eight (8) or more years of experience in survey instrumental operations and survey map preparation
- Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record
