The Landscaper, working under the direction and supervision of the Grounds Manager and Lead Groundskeeper, is responsible for the planting and upkeep of all grounds landscaping.

Pay rate starts at $16.00/hr and is commensurate with experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Follows landscaping design for public areas and residences
• Prepares soil for planting of grass, shrubs, flower, and trees
• Lays sod, sows seed, and replants variety of plants
• Prepares compost, fertilizes plants as required
• Waters plants
• Mows lawn, trims shrubs, prunes trees, and removes dead plants
• Clears roadways of encroaching weeds, debris, sand and trash
• May pick up and dispose of trash
• Repairs irrigation pipes and valves
• Digs and lines drainage ditches, culverts, and trenches
• Lays decorative and functional stone, brick, and rock
• Keeps work area clean; disposes of fertilizer appropriately
• Serves as member of disaster and emergency response teams; fulfills assigned role in fire drills and for snow removal
• Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to read and write proficiently and to follow verbal and written instructions; a minimum of one (1) year experience in landscaping work and operating landscaping equipment including snow removal equipment preferred; valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to maintain professional and cordial relationships with residents; dependable and capable of working well with minimal supervision; ability to sustain physical work including stooping, bending, reaching, climbing, and crawling for extended periods of time; ability to work overhead from ladders for sustained periods of time; ability to work full shifts outside exposed to all weather conditions; ability to regularly and safely lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
