Job Description

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN / LVN) – Corrections Travel Position Location: Lexington, VA Job Type: Travel Contract Duration: 8 weeks Shift: 3×12 Nights | Every Other Weekend Required | 36/48 Rotation Pay: $1,576.80/week (plus $1,175 completion bonus per contract, up to $3,525 after three contracts) Job Description ATC Healthcare is seeking a reliable and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) for an 8-week travel assignment in a correctional healthcare environment in Lexington, Virginia. The nurse will provide direct patient care to an incarcerated population, assisting with medication administration, patient assessments, and urgent medical needs under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. The ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, and capable of maintaining composure and professionalism in a secure facility setting. Candidates should be flexible with rotating schedules, every other weekend coverage, and able to accommodate the 36/48 work rotation. Note: Any request for time off exceeding 3 days will not be permitted. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, routine, and emergency nursing care to patients within a correctional facility.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and facility protocols.
  • Perform patient assessments, document findings, and report significant changes to the supervising RN or provider.
  • Assist with intake screenings, chronic care visits, and urgent/emergent medical responses.
  • Maintain clear and accurate medical records while adhering to confidentiality and documentation standards.
  • Comply with infection control, safety, and security procedures at all times.
  • Participate in shift reports and communicate effectively with healthcare and correctional staff.
  • Adjust to varying schedules, including 36/48 rotations and every other weekend coverage.
  • Attend orientation and adhere to facility policies regarding professional conduct and attendance.
Qualifications
  • Active Virginia LPN or Compact State license (required).
  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in correctional, med-surg, or similar clinical settings (required).
  • Certifications: BLS (required).
  • Ability to work in a high-security or high-stress environment while maintaining professionalism.
  • Must be able to wear facility-approved scrubs (specific colors or restrictions will be reviewed during orientation).
  • Must complete required background and agency forms prior to placement.
  • Strong assessment, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test required.
