Job Description

Boston Metal is revolutionizing the extractive metallurgy industry with a cutting-edge technology aimed at transforming metals production by reducing costs and minimizing the environmental footprint. As we are expanding rapidly, we are looking for a Maintenance Mechanic to join our growing team. This role is pivotal in supporting our organization’s efforts to mature business processes and commercialize our innovative technology.

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance tasks on machinery, equipment, and facilities to ensure smooth and efficient operation. The Maintenance Mechanic will troubleshoot mechanical issues, conduct repairs, perform preventive maintenance, and assist in maintaining the safety and functionality of the equipment and the workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creation of a preventative and predictive maintenance program
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on various mechanical systems and equipment, including pumps, motors, conveyors, HVAC systems, and production machinery
  • Diagnose mechanical failures and make repairs to machinery, equipment, and systems in a timely and effective manner
  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, cleaning, adjustments, and inspections to avoid future breakdowns
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics to understand mechanical systems and perform repairs accurately
  • Monitor and maintain machinery to ensure optimal performance, making adjustments when necessary
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to perform tasks, following safety procedures
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, workplace safety standards, and proper maintenance procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and any issues encountered during maintenance
  • Assist with the installation of new equipment and machinery, providing support during setup and ensuring proper operation
  • Work closely with other maintenance staff, production teams, and supervisors to identify areas of improvement and implement solutions
  • Assist in the procurement of spare parts and tools as needed
  • Respond to on-call emergencies and perform repairs outside of regular hours when necessary

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance or a related field is preferred
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Maintenance Mechanic or in a similar mechanical role, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing setting
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and machinery troubleshooting
  • Ability to work with mechanical blueprints, technical documents, and schematics
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, and machining is a plus
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and stand for extended periods
  • Flexibility to work on different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overtime, as required

You will be working in a small team environment where teamwork and good relationships with other team members are critical. We operate pilot plants and labs and many of our staff members are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and you should be prepared to do so as well when necessary.
