Medical Billing Specialist $20.50 - $22 Per Hour but if certified, $22 - $24 Principal Duties and Responsibilities Reviews patient encounters on unbilled charges for accuracy and completeness; obtains missing information. Knowledge of insurance rules and guidelines. Verify insurance company or proper party (patient) to be billed; verify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances for correct coding submission for payment. Utilize a combination of electronic health record (EHR) and paper patient records to perform billing duties; maintain an accurate, legally complaint medical record. Review coding denials or partially paid claims and work with the involved parties to resolve discrepancies. Manage assigned accounts ensuring outstanding/pending claims are processed for coding diagnosis in a timely manner. Communicate with health care providers and billing A/R staff to clarify billing issues and facilitate timely payment. Answering phones; faxing and filing of confidential documents; and basic internet and email utilization. Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities: Must have experience with third party billing of physician services. Solid understanding of CPT and HCPCS codes and practice management software. Basic knowledge of Word processing and Excel spreadsheets. Knowledge of billing practices and clinic procedures. Knowledge of coding and clinic operating policies. Ability to understand and interpret EOB’s/ERA’s Strong understanding of medical terminology. Educated and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of patient and client information. Education High school diploma or GED, some college preferred Certified Biller/Coder preferred. At least four years of directly related experience. Minimum of two years’ billing and/or collections experience in a health care organization. Two or more years preferred
