Duties

As a Museum Technician (History), you will:

  • Use digital camera(s) and/or scanner(s) to create clear, appropriate digital images for a wide variety of artifacts and collection records following standard museum and NARA guidelines.
  • Complete assigned tasks related to exhibit research, object selection, and text editing and formatting, as needed.
  • Gather data for reporting and develop and create content for social media platforms.
  • Apply agency-wide and site-specific methods and standards for accessioning and cataloging, including numbering, description, object labeling, and other associated tasks for museum holdings.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.



SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-7, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. This experience must be related to the operation or management of a museum. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience:

  • Using collections management tools and/or established SOPs or procedures in a museum setting; AND
  • Assisting in placing objects of historical or cultural significance into physical and/or virtual museum exhibits; AND
  • Assisting in cataloging, rehousing and/or preserving objects in museum collections.

EDUCATION: One full academic year of graduate level education in a related field. (Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled.)



OR



COMBINATION OF EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Details on combining education and experience are provided in the online questionnaire.
