Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to patients, particularly in surgical and post-operative settings.
  • Restrain animals for neurological exams, procedures, and treatments.
  • Administer medications and perform venipuncture, laboratory procedures, and specimen preparation.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including IV catheter placement, anesthesia induction, intubation, and surgical prep.
  • Monitor anesthesia under the supervision of our anesthesiologist, tracking vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, SpO2, and CO2.
  • Assist with diagnostic studies (radiography, CT, MRI) — training available.
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians, clients, and team members about patient needs, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Perform basic care (feeding, walking, cleaning of hospitalized patients) and handle kennel duties as needed.
  • Perform surgical room preparation, including instrument setup, room breakdown, sterilization, and assisting in surgeries as required.
  • Handle inventory, stocking, and assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications

  • Education : High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience : Veterinary Nurse experience required, with a focus on anesthesia monitoring and surgical skills. Neurology experience is a bonus but not required.
  • Skills : Strong communication and customer service skills; basic computer skills; flexibility to adapt to changing environments.

Additional Position Requirements

  • Schedule : 10-hour shifts, including one on-call weekend per month (subject to change based on caseload). Occasional overtime may be required.

  • Work Environment : Exposure to chemotherapy agents, radiation (x-ray and CT), anesthetic agents, and potential hazards associated with animal care (bites, scratches, infectious diseases).
