The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.
OPS Senior Health Educator:
This position will serve as a team member with the Office of Behavioral Health within the Community Health division. Works independently under the supervision of the Human Services Program Manager.
The Community Health division promotes a creative and low stress work environment where staff are encouraged to bring their professional and personal expertise from the healthcare and public health fields to the workplace, and to be innovative and creative in work products, marketing efforts and program delivery. This is a highly independent position and responsible for health promotion and education associated with the Office of Behavioral Health. The Office of Behavioral Health in the Community Health Division will assure that the burden and impact of diseases on vulnerable populations are acknowledged and addressed through research, advocacy, surveillance, education, training, and program development. The Office will work to promote, protect, and improve the health and well-being of disparate and under-served populations through wide-ranging programs and policy initiatives.
The Senior Health Educator must have knowledge of behavioral health and associated conditions such as mental health and substance abuse (specifically pertaining to opioids), homelessness, and suicide along with a thorough understanding of substance abuse pathways, community engagement and strategic planning is required.
The Senior Health Educator must have experience in public speaking, professional presentations, health education approaches, behavioral health and substance abuse.
The ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences is needed.
