Position Summary As a top-tier academic medical center, UNC Children’s upholds a four-tiered mission to CARE , aligning clinical care, advocacy, research, and education to deliver world-class family-centered care. The North Carolina Children’s Hospital is the clinical home of UNC Children’s which has 150
inpatient beds including: 64-bed inpatient unit, 8-bed Children’s Intermediate Care Center, 58-bed Newborn Critical Care Center and a 20-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Our multidisciplinary experts work in satellite clinics across the state and deliver state of the art tertiary care at UNC Children’s.
The Department of Pediatrics at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ( UNC )/ North Carolina Children’s Hospital is seeking an individual for a fixed term faculty position in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
The North Carolina Children’s Hospital is part of a busy quaternary care medical center with a 20 bed multidisciplinary PICU / PCICU that admits over 1200 patients per year and supports an active pediatric cardiothoracic surgery program as well as pediatric ECMO , burn, trauma, solid organ and bone marrow transplantation programs. The unit is functionally split into an 8 bed PCICU and a 12 bed PICU with the ability to flex based upon patient numbers. The Critical Care Medicine division maintains a fully accredited pediatric critical care medicine fellowship program.
UNC offers ready access to collaborators in other clinical and basic science departments, global and public health, public policy and other expertise across campus. UNC is a National Institutes of Health ( NIH ) Clinical and Translational Science Award ( CTSA ) funded institution that offers support for clinical and translational researchers at all levels. This support includes seed funding, regulatory assistance, data management, drug/device development and grant preparation among other things.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements The successful candidate will be dual trained and board certified/board eligible in pediatric critical care and cardiology OR BC/BE in either pediatric critical care or cardiology and have completed a minimum of one year of advanced training in cardiac intensive care medicine.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Pediatric cardiac intensive care experience as well as pediatric critical care experience is highly desirable as, at times, physicians will be expected to cover both units. This Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist will be committed to patient care, research, and education. A demonstrated commitment to quality improvement would match well with current divisional activities. Rank and salary will be commensurate with training, experience, and academic accomplishments.
