The Pharmacy Technician position assists the pharmacists with the medication procurement process for hospice pharmacy patients. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician obtains pertinent financial information, completes data entry of physician orders, fills orders, and prepares medications for mail order or inpatient unit restock shipments in accordance with state and federal codes and regulations. The position reports to the Lead Pharmacy Technician.
Essential Functions

1. Assists Pharmacists in the procurement and preparation of medications for hospice patients.
2. Processes admissions, transfers, and discharge information in computer system. Answers the telephone, responds to routine questions, and notifies a Pharmacist as needed. Enters charges to patient accounts if necessary.
3. Selects, counts, measures, prepares, packages/repackages, reconstitutes, and labels medication required for dispensing, utilizing established procedures. Prepares FedEx label for shipment of medications.
4. Returns unemptied medication bottles following preparation of a prescription.
5. Gathers necessary medications for replenishment of automated dispensing machines. Unit doses medications as needed for hospice patient needs.
6. Maintains adequate stock levels of medications and supplies (i.e., labels, vials, etc.) in the pharmacy. Communicates needed medication to be ordered for patient care. Receives daily orders from pharmacy wholesaler. Restocks the shelves with ordered medications and removes outdated medications from current inventory.
7. Assists with the proper maintenance of related departmental equipment. Maintains a clean work environment and sanitizes per policy.
8. Works cooperatively with fellow Pharmacy team members and others throughout the organization and with hospice partners.
9. Assists in training new team members as assigned.

1. Adheres to all HIPAA protocols for patient privacy.
2. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

• This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education, Licensure or Certification:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Certification as a Pharmacy Technician is preferred
• Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the state, if applicable
Work Experience or Related Experience:
• Prior experience in healthcare as a Pharmacy Technician or Medical Assistant is preferred
• Hospice and palliative care experience is preferred
• Knowledge of pharmacy/medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly encountered in a pharmacy required
• Experience with various web browsers: (Google Chrome / Firefox), Google Docs, Google Sheets, or similar software required
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while paying strict attention to detail required
• Prior experience with FrameWorks LTC software is preferred
