Read Muskegon is the leading nonprofit organization in Muskegon County addressing illiteracy through innovative programs and strong community partnerships. We are breaking the generational cycle of illiteracy by bringing literacy instruction to where people live, work, and connect.

Position Summary

The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing assigned literacy programs, ensuring high-quality delivery across multiple initiatives. The Program Manager is focused on program-level strategy, resource allocation, and risk management, ensuring projects align with overall objectives and contribute to the program's success. They also manage communication and stakeholder engagement.

This role oversees scheduling, staffing, volunteer coordination, and logistics for programs including 1:1 tutoring, correctional education, and English as Second Language classes. The Program Manager supervises a team of instructional and program staff and supports volunteers, ensuring each program runs smoothly and meets established goals.

This position reports to the Program Director. The ideal candidate is an organized, outstanding communicator, and experienced in both teaching and supervising others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of assigned literacy programs, including but not limited to: program calendars, facilitator and substitute schedules, classroom/site logistics, and supply coordination
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for program sites and resolve any concerns as they arise.
  • Oversee, implement, and maintain quality of program delivery ensuring learners are supported in the learning environment
  • Oversee participant recruitment to ensure programs reach targeted audiences.
  • Support learner enrollment, intake, and progress tracking processes
  • Lead and coordinate special projects that support the growth and improvement of Read Muskegon’s literacy programs
  • Supervise instructional and program support staff and support their professional development
  • Lead volunteer recruitment and ensure ongoing support of all volunteers
  • Coordinate volunteer engagement activities
  • Responsible for the design and delivery of volunteer training programs, manuals, and materials.
  • Document program data and outcomes to ensure alignment with goals and grant requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement through feedback, observations, and program assessments
  • Represent Read Muskegon at community events and partner meetings
  • Participate in intermittent evening and weekend programming
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Adult Education, or related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in non-profit or educational leadership
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing projects
  • Teaching or instructional experience with youth or adults
  • Strong organizational leader with the ability to analyze and problem-solve
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience in utilizing databases and reporting tools
  • Commitment to traditionally underserved communities.

This position requires occasional physical tasks related to program operations. Duties may include lifting and moving materials such as books, supplies, or equipment (typically up to 25 pounds), setting up for events, and organizing storage areas. Schedule : Monday to Friday, with intermittent evening/weekend hours

Benefits :

Salary: $50,000 -$55,000 annually
