Position Summary The Prospect Research Analyst provides instrumental support to enable the success of our overall fundraising operations and our comprehensive prospect development strategy. This position partners with prospect development and development team members to provide information and resources to identify potential donors, support effective donor qualification, and monitor pipeline strategies. This role interprets and summarizes publicly available information to support the appropriate placement of donors and potential donors within fundraising portfolios, inform solicitation strategies, and achieve fundraising goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prospect Research Analysis - Use information available through our donor database, wealth screening services, and online search tools to conduct research for prospects in alignment to fundraising priorities.
- Review information returned from wealth screenings in a timely manner for major gift prospects and evaluate giving capabilities, interests and priorities, relationship to South Dakota State University, and names of persons who may know and relate to the prospect.
- Verify the validity, importance, and quality of capacity and wealth estimations found through third-party services and update appropriate information in the database.
- Use a variety of internal and external resources to find, communicate, and update information on prospects’ capacity, career trajectory, financial records, contact information, and inclination.
- Provide consistent, appropriate donor profile templates, recording appropriate information in the database while adhering to standards of data integrity.
- Conduct regular review of targeted pipeline pools and former qualifications to ensure accurate status.
- Work with colleagues in data management to set standards for information acquisition, storage, retrieval, and distribution.
Other Duties - Other duties may be assigned to meet the organization’s needs.
Education and Previous Experience Associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. Two or more years of professional experience in related field (such as research communications, administrative support, customer service, compliance, or data entry) is recommended.

- Ability to be organized and resourceful to locate and compile information and accomplish projects with minimal supervision.
- Consistent attention to detail in composing and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment with professional demeanor, self-reliance, and resourcefulness.

- High energy, positive attitude, and high degree of initiative.
- Proficient experience using the most recent versions of computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (i.e. MSWord, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Typical Physical Demands Requires sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and some lifting. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone, and other office and/or clerical equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
