Context of the Job:
The Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD) is a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive student learning and psychological wellbeing program providing a diverse array of services so that students can be more successful in their academic, personal, and career pursuits. The CCSD is IACS accredited and sponsors interdisciplinary training including an APA-accredited doctoral internship. CCSD is situated within the Wellbeing Portfolio which seeks to integrate care delivery in a seamless, holistic, and effective manner with excellence in clinical care and team functioning at its core. The Wellbeing Portfolio is part of the Division of Student Life (SL) whose mission is to advance equity and inclusion, deepen student learning and drive holistic development through education, experiences and communities.
Under the direction of the CCSD leadership team, the Psychological Assistant position is designed to provide an excellent early career opportunity for new graduates of doctoral psychology programs. The incumbent will receive dedicated supervision time with a licensed psychologist assigned by the center as they accumulate hours required for state licensure. Attention will be paid to developing the incumbent’s clinical and teamwork skills as well as monitoring and supporting progression toward licensure. The Psychological Assistant will be retained for one year (renewable for one additional year upon successful completion of year one).
The Psychological Assistant has responsibility in three major areas: (1) Clinical excellence (direct clinical services including individual and group counseling, crisis management, outreach, and consultation); (2) Team excellence (embodying proactive and constructive interdisciplinary team skills both within and outside of the center), and (3) a commitment to training (participating in supervision and didactic training efforts). The Psychological Assistant enhances CCSD’s and the University’s national reputation through expertise in providing a broad range of college counseling services. This work is generally highly sensitive and requires thorough familiarity of ethical and legal procedures.
