Level 1 Trauma facility that offers 16 state-of-the- art operating rooms utilizing advanced cutting-edge technology.
The OR department is separated on two floors to help serve the specific needs of patients. On the 2nd floor, the center focuses on elective cases such as: Pediatrics and Pediatric Orthopedics, ENT, General, and Urology.
On the 3rd floor, there is focus on more complex cases and emergencies. We specialize on TRACS (Trauma Acute Care Services), General, Cardiovascular and Neurology. We collaborate with Cardiovascular/Peripheral-Vascular specialties including having Angio suites nearby. We have Neuro navigation systems and hybrid rooms. The OR utilizes block scheduling with all specialties. Call teams include General, TRACS, Cardiovascular and Ortho/Neuro. Rotating shifts encompass call with 24/7 shift coverage.
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) First Assist provides assistance to the operating surgeons in carrying out technical surgical procedures in accordance with applicable safety laws and regulations. Assists operating surgeons with intra-operative procedures like homeostasis, exposure, closure, etc. Develops specialized preoperative plans in coordination with appropriate surgeons and health team members. Prepares surgical tools and equipment, administers intraoperative medications and takes preventative measures to ensure applicable health and safety regulations are satisfied.
Performs responsibilities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act according to applicable state, institutional policies and procedures of facility, and the Association of Registered Nurses (AORN) Position Statement on RN First Assistants. Practices in collaboration with the surgeon and the health care team in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient. Functions as an assistant in all surgical specialties at the direction of the attending surgeon. Does not concurrently function as the scrub nurse.
Credentialing through the Allied Health Staff of the organization where you will be working will be required.
Qualifications
Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
Minimum of two years' experience in the operating room preferred.
Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
Must be certified by the Certification by the Competency and Credentialing Institute Certification (CCI) for Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR). Maintaining certification is a requirement for employment.
