Job Description

one5c is a climate-action publication aimed at helping our audience identify specific ways they can combat the environmental crisis. We are a fully remote company that currently gets its words out through newsletters and social media, and we’re expanding into product reviews. 

one5c is hiring a Senior Editor to lead our product reviews program. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, the Senior Editor will be the primary driver of gear coverage, which centers on recommending products that represent the ideal blend of performance and sustainability. The editor will be responsible for maintaining an editorial calendar based on a regular cadence of new reviews, article updates, and supporting content that helps readers use and maintain the stuff they already own. They’ll also be responsible for building and maintaining a diverse roster of freelance contributors that represent the full breadth of the consumer landscape, overseeing research into companies’ and products’ sustainability claims, and iterating on every aspect of content presentation—from product imagery and data visualization to article templates.

You will need to:

• Build out and maintain an editorial calendar for product coverage
• Manage and coordinate with freelance writers, analysts, and designers (as necessary)
• Optimize and update articles based on search trends and new releases
• Refine the reviews process, from product selection to how winners are selected
• Serve as the main point-of-contact with our in-house and agency SEO teams

You should have:

• At least 7 years of journalism experience, preferably in gear, science, and/or environmental journalism
• An appreciation for good quality products and a hair-trigger BS detector, including a zero-tolerance approach to greenwashing 
• Comfort digging into lifecycle assessments, white papers, and other sustainability analyses, or an eagerness to learn
• Deep concern about the climate emergency and a readiness to do something about it
• Borderline obsessive detail-orientedness and organizational skills
• An entrepreneurial and self-starting spirit
• A nice can-do attitude. We are nice people here.
• Experience optimizing content across platforms, and some familiarity with search tools like SEMRush
