Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Scheduler to lead the scheduling efforts for a major turnaround in a renewable fuels refinery . This role is crucial in ensuring the successful planning, execution, and completion of turnaround activities by developing and maintaining detailed schedules that enhance efficiency, minimize downtime, and control costs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in turnaround scheduling within renewable fuels, biofuels, or traditional refining , proficiency in scheduling software, and the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including project managers, contractors, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and update detailed turnaround schedules for pre-turnaround, execution, and post-turnaround phases in a renewable fuels refinery environment.
  • Utilize Primavera P6 or other industry-standard scheduling tools to build and manage project timelines, incorporating resource allocation, critical path analysis, and dependencies.
  • Collaborate closely with turnaround planners, engineers, maintenance teams, and contractors to ensure all renewable fuels processes, including hydroprocessing, pretreatment, and hydrogen production units , are properly scheduled.
  • Conduct scenario analyses and risk assessments to optimize project schedules and minimize delays in plant restart.
  • Monitor workforce productivity, contractor schedules, and material deliveries to ensure adherence to the turnaround plan.
  • Track critical equipment repairs, catalyst changeouts, mechanical integrity inspections, and unit commissioning schedules.
  • Provide real-time progress updates, reporting key performance metrics such as percent complete, float analysis, and earned value tracking.
  • Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery of specialized equipment and biofuel production components.
  • Identify scheduling risks, constraints, and opportunities, recommending mitigation strategies to ensure on-time execution.
  • Ensure all turnaround activities comply with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards specific to renewable fuels refining .

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
  • 10+ years of experience in turnaround scheduling within renewable fuels, biofuels, or traditional refining operations .
  • Expertise in Primavera P6 and other scheduling tools (MS Project, SAP, or other relevant software).
  • Strong understanding of renewable fuels refining processes , including hydroprocessing, feedstock conversion, and hydrogen production.
  • Experience with critical path method (CPM) scheduling, risk analysis, and earned value management (EVM) .
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and work packages to develop comprehensive schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to proactively manage schedule changes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to update stakeholders on schedule performance and potential risks.
  • Experience in managing multiple contractors and coordinating large-scale maintenance and upgrade projects in a renewable fuels refinery.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and safety protocols, including EPA biofuel regulations, OSHA, and API turnaround best practices .

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional) certification.
  • Experience with TAR / STO (Shutdown, Turnaround, and Outage) methodologies in renewable fuels facilities .
  • Familiarity with cost controls, budgeting, and procurement processes related to turnaround execution in biofuels and renewable energy production.
