Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Transportation Underwriter to join our underwriting team, specializing in the trucking and commercial auto sector. This role is responsible for evaluating and analyzing complex risks associated with motor carriers, owner operators, and fleet trucking operations. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of transportation risk, strong analytical skills, and the ability to make sound underwriting decisions to drive profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
• Evaluate, underwrite, and price new and renewal trucking-related commercial auto risks in accordance with company underwriting guidelines and authority.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and internal partners to drive new business and retain existing accounts.
• Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations on coverage, terms, pricing, and endorsements.
• Monitor portfolio performance and make recommendations for underwriting adjustments as necessary.
• Collaborate with claims, actuarial, legal, and risk control teams on account decisions and product development.
• Stay informed of market trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices in transportation insurance.
• Train and mentor junior underwriters and underwriting assistants as needed.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 5–7 years of commercial underwriting experience, with a focus on trucking or transportation risks.
• Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, safety and compliance factors, and transportation industry operations.
• Proven ability to assess complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions within authority levels.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
