Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Therapist to join our team! The ideal candidate will have experience in providing therapeutic and social services to youth within a residential setting. This position involves assistance with completing intakes and maintenance of necessary clinical records on a continuous basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assesses the therapeutic needs of individual residents assigned to caseload by the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Generates individualized therapy plans for each resident based on assessment of therapeutic needs.
  • Uses information developed during the initial stages of the therapeutic relationship, as well as information gathered from inter- and intra-agency service providers.
  • Therapy plans are reviewed during each IDT, and retained/altered/eliminated according to decisions made during that process.
  • Provides therapy and other services to residents.
  • Provides additional services to a resident in consultation with the Director of Clinical Services, and coordinated with other agency personnel.
  • Maintains all necessary clinical records (therapy notes, assessments, IDT updates, monthly summaries, etc.) on a timely basis.
  • Provides verbal and/or written reports of progress at clinical rounds and during IDT/MDT/ clinical case conferences, as needed.
  • During a resident’s discharge IDT, provides information to other agency service providers as to aftercare and follow-up services requirements of the resident.
  • Assists in completing referrals to ensure the timely resumption of services for the resident after discharge, and during transition to other levels of care.
  • Provides therapeutic and social services to family of resident, when indicated.
  • Participates in the PQI process by assisting the organization to meet its quality improvement, evaluation, and reporting requirements; contributes to developing outcomes and indicators and setting targets; participates in the collection and interpretation of data; applies data to improve practices & outcomes; uses program and client outcomes data to improve service delivery as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

Advanced degree in the human services field from an accredited graduate school, including course work in counseling/therapy. Two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrates knowledge of residential child care field.

If providing substance abuse services, providers must have appropriate training in the treatment of alcohol or drug abuse problems. Providers receive ongoing in-service training on substance abuse. They are supervised by a state certified alcohol and/or drug counseling supervisor.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend complex material. Ability to write complex correspondence and reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents and employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; internet software; spreadsheet software; and word processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • West Virginia Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology license or license eligible.
  • Certified in CPR/First Aid.
  • Current and valid driver’s license.

Other Qualifications

The person must be eligible for employment with WVCARES including CPS/APS background check. A candidate must be sensitive to the cultural and socio-economic characteristics of the residents and of staff. Occasionally overnight travel is required. Training requirements and licenses, if any, must be kept current.
