POSITION SUMMARY

Develops, shoots, edits and assembles videotape messages for broadcast and non-broadcast applications. Supervises technical and creative aspects of videotape production including post-production and distribution.

MSU Extension is seeking a Video Producer to creatively tell stories about our community programming, with a focus on telling community success stories about our nutrition and physical activity educational programming. In this newly created position, you will produce high-quality, professional video productions for the MSU Extension Health and Nutrition Institute. In partnership with communications managers in the Health and Nutrition Institute (HNI), as well as other staff within the Nutrition and Physical Activity (NPA) team, you will lead the development (storyboarding and scheduling), production (recording studio and in field), and editing of high-quality video promotions, interviews, news stories, and special projects from initial brainstorming sessions all the way through post-production and content distribution.

Video production work will include shooting video and photographs on and off campus and producing video and photographic marketing pieces vital to achieving marketing goals and telling the impact story of MSU Extension’s health and nutrition programs, participants, and staff. You should have the ability to work independently as well as collaborate closely with communications staff, and be able to multi-task, prioritize and self-manage timelines; possess effective project management skills from ideation to launch; and have a proven ability to craft impactful and engaging stories through digital and video platforms. The content you produce will be featured on MSU Extension’s websites, social media, and email, among many other platforms.

While the chosen candidate will be joining a collaborative and supportive team, the Video Producer will sometimes be working individually, and will, at times, be the sole or lead person responsible for audio, video, and lighting during filming. To that end, we seek an individual who is both collaborative and a self-starter.

Although negotiable, this is a campus-based position that reports to the Communications Manager in the Health and Nutrition Institute. Travel will occasionally be required to various county/district offices in the state of Michigan to shoot video footage.

This position may be eligible to utilize a flexible work environment, however, there is an expectation to work from the campus-based MSU Extension office. The needs, responsibilities, and opportunities of an individual’s position and office location drive the ability and amount of work-location flexibility.

This is a full-time, end-dated appointment, renewable annually based upon continued funding.
