POSITION SUMMARY

The Web Developer is a new role on NCOA's digital team, responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and development of NCOA's digital properties, primarily ncoa.org and benefitscheckup.org. This full-stack role requires extensive experience with AWS tools, next.js, and headless content management systems (CMS), as well as some experience with Angular. The Web Developer will provide technical oversight for web development vendors supporting enhancement projects and new development for ncoa.org, benefitscheckup.org, as well as our ancillary websites (e.g., connect.ncoa.org) and collaborate with our IT department. The Web Developer will ensure our websites are accessible and optimized for direct-to-consumer use.

Positions at this level require advanced knowledge and experience with web development and applicable tools. Incumbents are required to make independent judgements within their scope of work and require minimal oversight. Incumbents have a minimum of three years of applicable experience in their discipline and a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent, as well as substantive experience at this level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Website Maintenance and Development:

  • Oversee the daily maintenance of ncoa.org and benefitscheckup.org.
  • Implement small enhancements and projects to enhance website functionality and user experience.
  • Ensure websites are secure, scalable, and performant.

Full Stack Development:

  • Utilize AWS tools such as Amplify, Dynamo, S3, CloudWatch, CloudFront, and Translate for backend development.
  • Develop and maintain front-end components for ncoa.org using Next.js.
  • Develop and maintain frontend components for benefitscheckup.org using Angular.
  • Integrate and manage headless content management system (Kontent.ai).

Accessibility and Multilingual Support:

  • Ensure all digital properties are accessible and meet WCAG guidelines.
  • Implement and maintain multilingual support for websites, ensuring a seamless user experience for all language versions. (Currently, primarily Spanish on benefitscheckup.org using Amazon Translate.)

Technical Oversight:

  • Provide technical guidance and oversight for larger development projects outsourced to digital vendors.
  • Review code and project deliverables to ensure they meet NCOA’s standards and requirements.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure project success.

Technical SEO:

  • Assist in the implementation and analysis of technical SEO strategies.
  • Collaborate with the content team, Pillar 4, and others to ensure SEO best practices are followed.

Collaboration and Team Support:

  • Work closely with digital team colleagues (including content strategy and delivery, digital experience strategy, project management, and data analysis), IT department, and internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions that delight.
  • Provide technical support and mentorship to team members as needed.
  • Contribute to collaborative team environment that cultivates efficient execution, innovation, and continuous improvement.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in full-stack web development.
  • Proficiency with AWS tools (e.g., Amplify, Dynamo, S3, CloudWatch, CloudFront, Translate).
  • Significant development experience with Next.js.
  • Proven ability to manage and integrate headless content management systems (e.g., Kontent.ai).
  • Some development experience with Angular.
  • Significant experience optimizing for mobile.
  • Portfolio of work demonstrating accessible, direct-to-consumer websites.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with technical SEO best practices.
  • Experience with non-profits and helping disadvantaged populations (e.g., seniors, people with disabilities).
