Job Description

Position: Activities Assistant (Full Time or Part Time)

Salary: DOE

Purpose: Assumes responsibility for the delivery of specific assigned Life Enrichment programs to individual or groups of residents. Assists with volunteer activities in the absence of Supervisor. Invites and assists residents to entertainment events or groups on a daily basis. To participate with other Life Enrichment Coordinators and Life Enrichment Director in planning and facilitating a wide variety of large and small group activities that increases the resident's self-respect, promotes physical, spiritual, cognitive, social and emotional health and to provide 1 on 1 individual activities for those residents who generally do no benefit from group activities. Periodic reviews of resident interest and activity assessment and daily participation documentation in Point Click Care.

Position Responsibilities:
* Assist with activities as directed by the Life Enrichment Director and in accordance with each resident's plan of care.
* Help maintain pleasant and cheerful nursing home environment.
* Deliver mail and packages as schedule.
* Assists in creating and posting daily scheduled activities, designing bulletin boards and fliers.
* Attend all WCC meetings and in-services.
* Maintain current resident activity participation in groups/One on One Services as assigned by supervisor.
* Assists with building rapport with community agencies and other disciplines to encourage their support of facility programs
* Assist with distribution of monthly calendars as directed by supervisor.
* Assemble and maintain community bulletin boards as assigned by supervisor.
* Other duties as assigned by Life Enrichment Director.
* Records clinical documentation according to accepted facility, regulatory and professional guidelines including but not limited to:
a. Quarterly Summaries
b. Required MDS data entry, which may or may not include RAP summaries as applicable.
c. Annual Re-Assessments
d. New Resident Assessment Intake - Within 5 days of Admission

Qualifications:
* Associates Degree in relevant field preferred.
* Dementia & Mental Health Training or ability to attain within regulatory guidelines.
* Ability to attain first aid training, HIV/AIDS training; obtain a food handler's card.
* One year experience or technical training working with older adults including
Dementia/Alzheimer's Residents.
* Relevant work or volunteer experience within the past year.
* Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written.
* Excellent knowledge of computer technology.
* Knowledgeable of facility protocols, regulations and guidelines for long term care.
* Proven skills and knowledge to plan, organize, develop, implement, conduct programs to provide optimum resident care.
* Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with team members and diverse groups.
* Demonstrate ability to interact positively and cooperatively with residents, families, guardians, staff, entertainers, volunteers and outside agencies.
* Ability to teach and conduct Life Enrichment activities, creating an environment that is inclusive and supportive of all participants.
* Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements:
Must be physically capable of lifting and pushing objects using proper body mechanics.
Must be physically capable of climbing and squatting occasionally.
* Must be able to sit and stand for periods of time.
* Must be physically capable of lifting 50lbs occasionally and 20lbs frequently.
* Must be physically capable of pushing 50lbs frequently.
* Must be physically capable of pulling 10lbs frequently.
* Must be physically capable of climbing and squatting occasionally.
* Must be physically capable of reaching above shoulder level occasionally.
