Job Description

Position: Accountant/Bookkeeper

Overview:

VANTA Partners' client is a real estate firm that is seeking an experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper to oversee comprehensive accounting and bookkeeping functions related to property management, leasing, and real estate transactions. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in real estate accounting and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial records.

Key Responsibilities:

General Accounting:

  • Maintain the general ledger, including the preparation and posting of journal entries.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts.
  • Process payroll and ensure compliance with tax filing requirements.

Real Estate Specific Accounting:

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable within property management operations.
  • Record and monitor property-related income and expenses, such as rent collections, utilities, and maintenance costs.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of property costs and reporting across multiple properties.
  • Prepare and submit property management reports for property owners and tenants.
  • Handle escrow and trust accounts in accordance with real estate transaction requirements.

Real Estate Transactions:

  • Monitor and record financial aspects of property acquisitions, dispositions, and related transactions.
  • Maintain detailed records of capital improvements and depreciation schedules for real estate assets.

Vendor Management:

  • Oversee vendor invoicing, payments, and communications.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices for property-related expenditures.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of full-charge bookkeeping experience, specifically within the real estate industry.
  • Proven experience in property management, real estate transactions, and leasing activities.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and real estate accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Yardi, AppFolio, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive financial statements and reports.
  • Experience with accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and account reconciliations.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal tax regulations pertinent to real estate is advantageous.
