Job Description

Early Options is seeking a caring, compassionate, and motivated clinical assistant to join our team. We are a private medical office located in Midtown Manhattan providing safe, simple, and personalized early abortion services.

As CA you will be the main person helping women navigate their medical experience at Early Options from start to finish and supporting the doctor to provide primary care-based abortion care. You will positively greet our patients as they walk in the door, speak with them before they see the doctor and be in the exam room at the patient's bedside offering general support as they go through the process.

You will be responsible for vitals, after care instructions, medical abortion counseling, birth control counseling, consents, and accurate charting. You will need to be diligent and thorough with the daily clinical operations, including preparing the room before and after each patient. We need our CA to be attentive to the overall environment, optimizing patient (and companion) comfort.

You will also work with other staff members on the administrative tasks that come with running a small private office, on non-clinical days these can include – keeping on top of office billing, organizing staff linens, documenting calls, email responses, restocking rooms, ensuring medical accounts (including licenses and insurance) are up to date and correspondence with outside accounts. As well as working with the National Abortion Federation on pledges for our patients and the Medicaid office to ensure our Medicaid patients can be seen. The CA also offers phone support by answering the office phone and speaking with and scheduling patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Capable of handling the emotional complexity of patient care as it pertains to women from varying backgrounds and situations during a vulnerable time of their lives

· Able to navigate sensitive situations and work as a team with the doctor and fellow staff members

· Exceptional listening skills during patient care, phone calls and staff interactions

· Able to adjust demeanor and attitude to always convey a positive working environment

· Medical assistant degree (AAS) or previous medical office experience preferred

· Understands medical language, CPT and ICD9/10 coding and procedures

· Has a working computer knowledge and is able to easily navigate programs

· Previous customer service experience in the medical field preferred

· Understands lab testing & lab ordering including lab draw protocols

· Has knowledge of abortion services and birth control

· Has working knowledge of EMR’s

· Can triage calls appropriately and efficiently with appropriate listening and communication skills and have an emotionally sensitive demeanor

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

· Taking patient vitals (finger prick, bp, temp) and conducting UPT tests

· Reviewing aftercare and birth control with patients

· Setting up ultrasound, readying sterile packs, organizing room for efficiency, handing doctor tools as needed

· Reviewing privacy policies with patients and following both HIPPA and OSHA rules and having patient sign forms where necessary

· Ensuring we maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping patient care information confidential

· Maintain and coordinate patient follow up care deemed necessary by the doctor (e.g. following up with patients for pregnancy test results, contacting patients with positive GC results, etc.)

· Ensuring all equipment is and are properly maintained

· Stocking office supplies and inventory

· Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reads professional publications and relevant newsworthy material; maintains personal networks; participates in professional organizations

· Completes various special projects and duties as assigned

· Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment

Employment Term:

The position is part-time/per diem with a possible transition to full time (and Saturday's will become a mandatory day in the near future)
