JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Server, under the direction and guidance of the Dining Room Manager and/or Dining Room Supervisor, is responsible for courteously and professionally serving resident and guest meals. This also includes preparation and set up of the dining room and other side responsibilities, such as catering functions. The Lead Server is often responsible for training new Servers in the standard operating procedures of Williamsburg Landing, to include establishing sanitation and safety expectations. The Lead Server uses knowledge of the menu and bar list to help new staff with questions about menu items and how to describe them to guests.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION

  • Assigns day to day responsibilities for specific job duties and/or functional activities and oversees completion; conducts safety and quality inspections; assists in monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for increased service or productivity
  • Assists with onboarding and training new employees and serves as a Champion for new Servers, including a kitchen tour, reviewing daily tasks, and onboarding support and training
  • Utilizes leadership qualities and strategies for facilitating day to day work of employees such as motivating, leading, coaching and conflict resolution
  • Collaborates with residents to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, service, and problem resolution; reports any indication of residents' deteriorating physical, emotional, or mental health by noting such cues as uneaten foods, deteriorating cleanliness, unsafe placement of furniture or candles, incontinence, or conversations that indicate unhappiness or loneliness
  • Proficient in utilizing the Point of Sale (POS) system
  • Prepares dining room tables and formal dining area; records resident orders accurately and serves meals in a timely manner; communicates effectively with kitchen staff regarding individual resident orders and needs, responding to special requests during service times
  • Practices proper service procedures: pre-bussing, clearing tables, cleaning tables, and re-setting tables during and after meals
  • Maintains organized, clean, and sanitized work areas and equipment; utilizes equipment correctly and safely and reports operational problems immediately
  • Promotes friendly, productive relationships with residents and co-workers; participates in creating a high energy, positive, teamwork environment
  • Evaluates work processes and methods and submits recommendations for continuous quality improvement
  • Fills Dining Room Supervisor shifts in absence of a Dining Room Supervisor in Independent Living and Assisted Living
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Any satisfactory combination of education, training, experience, or abilities in a related field; ability to communicate and follow instructions in English, verbally and in writing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Exhibits personal cleanliness and follows established dress code; pleasant, tactful and courteous; ability to cooperate with other employees; engages staff in a positive manner promoting a teachable supportive environment; ability to work with minimal supervision and follow directions; must be 21 years of age or older; physical conditions to tolerate standing for long periods: bending, reaching, carrying, and lifting up to 25 pounds and pushing up to 200 pounds; regularly necessary to talk, hear, taste, and smell; specific vision requirements include distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus; frequent exposure to hot and cold work areas, wet and humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes and mildly abrasive chemicals

Hours of Employment

The Dining Department is a 7-day a week, 14-hour a day, operation. Employees are required to work on any day of the week according to the schedule and shift developed to meet the needs of the department.
