Job Overview:

The Operations Engineer (Marine) applies their conceptual knowledge of Offshore Marine Construction Operations and with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward problems. They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures, as well as building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. The Operations Engineer (Marine) understands key business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations through analysis of possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents. The Operations Engineer (Marine) provides technical and engineering support to an offshore construction project or tender. The Operations Engineer (Marine) may be involved in all stages of a project life cycle from providing technical support to an early engagement commercial pursuit through to final project close out. The role is an office based position, however regular on site field support (construction sites and offshore locations) is required to properly execute the job duties.

Job Responsibility:

  • Ensure that all work is carried out safely in compliance with Health, Safety, & Environment policies and procedures
  • Recommended changes in the technical details, and drawings, where these may result in safer and better installation procedures
  • Develop (or review those provided by others) mobilization and readiness plans for the transportation of materials/structures to the offshore that facilitate safe and timely installation
  • Actively participate in project Job Safety Analysis, if applicable, and communicate and implement requisite control measures. Recommends changes in the technical details or drawings where these may result in safer and better installation procedures.
  • Review and retain project drawings and documents, report any discrepancies, errors, and omissions concerning the information required to perform the work
  • Ensure the planned work is defined within the capabilities of the proposed equipment
  • Maintain project files in the office and the field in accordance with project requirements
  • Prepare installation Procedure(s) by the Level II Procedure and with due regard for safety. The scope of procedures required will be defined by the senior level engineer assigned to the project. As a minimum, the procedure(s) will outline the following:
  • Methods, techniques, and practices to be used to perform work
  • The sequence(s) to be used to perform work
  • Installation aids, temporary works, and consumables required to perform the work
  • Prepare material for construction materials and project consumables, and liaise with the project coordinator for procurement of requirements
  • Issue “Mobilization Readiness Checklists” applicable to the work by the recommended practice
  • Coordinate with various interfaces including Vessel Managers, Vessel Operations Managers, Subject Matter Experts, and others as necessary to ensure that necessary equipment, processes, and personnel are available and ready for the project
  • Witness/inspect pre-mobilization readiness check and testing including pre-rigging, loadouts, sea fastening, function testing, factory acceptance testing, system interface testing, etc. and acknowledge the receipt and readiness of the components for offshore installation. Developing checklists and inspecting loadouts by Level II Procedures
  • Liaise with the customer representative and various subcontractor representatives at the offshore site.
  • Ensure the contract/project-related documentation is maintained and/or transmitted to the Customer at the site:
  • Review Daily Progress Reports
  • Extra Work Notification Sheets and/or Change Order Notification as required in the contract specifications
  • As-built documentation (sketches, records, videos) by approved procedures
  • Monitor the progress of the work and site conditions and advise the project team of any development that may result in changes to the project and schedule and/or execution sequence
  • Advise the Offshore Construction Manager (OCM) and/or Vessel Management Team (VMT) including Subcontractors (such as Survey, Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV), Non Destructive Testing (NDT), Field Joint Coating (FJC), Pre-Commissioning, and others as applicable regarding the planning and execution of the work and the contractual and technical aspects of the work. Issues field sketches, data sheets, and checklists as required for information purposes for the VMT
  • Participate in the resolution of any technical problems arising during offshore installation and assist in the formulation of corrective action requirements
  • Overseeing the procurement of materials and installation aids associated with the assigned scope:
  • Preparation of material requisitions.
  • Additional Duties as required

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in the EPCI industry, with a strong understanding of engineering principles and project execution processes
  • Solid knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations
  • Proficiency in using software tools and systems commonly utilized in the EPCI industry
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools
  • Exceptional analytical aptitude with an ability to solve complex problems efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated drive for results with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes within specified timelines
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities and meet demanding project requirements
  • Strong problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to exercise sound judgment
