Job Description

The School Safety Officer position oversees and directs all Rolling Hills Preparatory School (RHP) safety-related operations regarding the safety of students and adults. The majority of the working hours will be spent specifically on security duties and the remainder on safety responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Provide school security duties; patrol campus buildings and grounds
• Help protect students and adults from various dangers; focus on prevention
• Work collaboratively with local public safety and law enforcement
• Develop a trustworthy relationship with RHP students and adults
• Greet students and parents upon arrival
• Be visible within the school community and help maintain a safe and friendly environment
• Demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking skills in all situations
• Communicate regularly with various school constituencies
• Assist in directing safety-related and emergency preparedness planning and training
• Assist in development of proactive and preventative crisis/crime prevention and response plans
• Assist with facilities security systems, door locks, fire alarms, and similar duties relating to building and grounds
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

• Start date: 8/16/2024
• Hourly Rate: $25-$30

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required 

• Three or more years of work experience in commercial or school security, law enforcement, or similar experience
• Ability to work well with adults and students of all ages
• Commissioned Licensed Security Officer
• Successful completion of a background check
• Current Safe Environment training

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Speak and hear to communicate effectively with school population and the public
• Travel safely and comfortably across campus 
• Physically able to assist, when necessary, with event setup and breakdown, including lifting up to 30 lbs
• Work in stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
